Standard Club
The Standard Club is a private country club, founded as the Concordia Association in 1867. Originally located in Atlanta, Georgia, the club is now located in the northern suburb of Johns Creek.
==History==
The club started as the Concordia Association in 1867 in Downtown Atlanta. Their premises, the 1892 Concordia Hall], are still standing in the Hotel Row historic district. In 1905 it was reorganized as the Standard Club and moved into the former mansion of William C. Sanders on the east side of Washington Street between Fair Street (now Memorial Drive) and Woodward Avenue. The neighborhood, Washington-Rawson, became the heart of the Jewish community until the 1920s and would later be razed to make way for the Downtown Connector interchange with I-20 and for Atlanta Fulton County Stadium and its parking lots (now Turner Field and its parking lots).
In the late 1920s the club moved to Ponce de Leon Avenue in Midtown Atlanta. The site was later acquired by its neighbors, the Yarrab Shrine temple.
In 1940, new quarters opened near Brookhaven, in what is now the Lenox Park business park, in 1940〔(Atlanta and Environs: A Chronicle of Its People and Events, 1940s-1970s By Harold H. Martin )〕 and was located there until 1983. Today, the five buildings that form the headquarters of AT&T Mobility form a circle and overlook what was once the club's golf course and its lake.
In the 1980s, the club moved to its present location in Johns Creek.
The three categories of Full Privilege members and their immediate family will enjoy full access to an 18-hole Arthur Hills original championship golf course, which underwent an extensive redesign in 2004 by noted Golf Course Architect Mike Riley. Your family will also enjoy complete access to the Club's golf practice facilities, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, all fitness/recreation facilities, swimming pool, men's and ladies locker rooms, dining and banquet facilities, as well as a full calendar of golf, tennis and social events.
The Standard Club offers the finest in tennis facilities, featuring eight meticulously maintained clay courts with a graduated stadium, four hard courts and four luxurious indoor courts. Our facility has been chosen by the United States Tennis Association to host the Men's National 60's Tournament and and has been the site of several prestigious, locally sponsored charitable benefits.
The Club offers a total tennis program for every member of your family. For adults, we feature women's and men's league play, social outings, competitive tournaments, camps and tennis lessons instructed by USPTA certified professionals. For juniors, we offer all types of camps and clinics, along with competitive events. We also offer a full-service pro shop with the latest in fashion apparel, rackets, accessories and on-site racket repairs.
The Standard Club's 18-hole championship golf course originally designed by Arthur Hills was redesigned in 2005 by Mike Riley. Recognized as being one of the top 18 courses in Georgia, our course offers a challenge to every level of player from the novice to touring professional demanding management as well as shot execution. Great care was taken to use the native trees, shrubs and grasses which naturally landscaped the golf course. This foliage was used to define playing areas and to enhance the beauty of the course during the four seasons.
Golf members may leave their clubs at the Club and after each use they will be cleaned and stored for your convenience. The professional golf staff is readily available to teach every level of golfer and offers active junior and ladies' programs including clinics and camps for the juniors. The Club provides a double-sided driving range, chipping green and putting green to help strengthen your game.
Visit our Pro Shop for all of your equipment, apparel and golf needs. Gift certificates may also be purchased and customized for year-round gift giving. Be sure to ask our golf professionals about our Buyer's Club and Hole-in-One Club.
